Harnessing your Internal Energy (Chi)

Internal Chi

The understanding of Chi (Qi) can be mysterious and sometimes confusing to most westerners. Chi is defined as the energy circulating in the human body, as well as all other energy in our surroundings. With more recent studies of bio-electricity over the past century, scientists have been able to identify the movement of the internal energy in humans.

Studies of various forms of energy are fairly new compared to the ancient Asian studies of Chi. Scientist have only began to understand the natural energies surrounding us such as x-rays and magnetic fields. Other unnatural forms of energy are also being introduced to our daily lives, such as radiation generated by cell phones and power lines.

Our bodies are actually living magnetic fields which are effected by everything inside and around us, from the air we breathe to the foods we eat. Chi is the source of life, and once it’s functions are understood and able to be regulated, it can be used to increase health and longevity.

Ways to harness chi have been investigated and practiced in the Chinese culture for many years, and have shown significant improvements in practitioners health. Some of these methods include acupuncture, herbal treatments, massage, qi gong, yoga and of course meditation.

Harnessing chi during meditation involves focusing energy to in the lower dan tian, which is believed to be where human internal energy (chi) is stored. The lower dan tian is located in the abdominal area, and can be considered a bio-electric battery for the body. When the body and mind are a relaxed and meditative state, it is believed that chi can be generated and circulated throughout the body using breathing methods and movements.

The purpose of harnessing chi is to cultivate a peaceful and open mind, while thriving for the ultimate goal of spiritual enlightenment. Learning to effectively harness chi can take years of practice and dedication, but the journey will be most rewarding.
