Staying fit with Martial Arts

When most people think of martial arts, the first image that usually comes to mind is an acrobatic athlete performing seemingly impossible movements, such as those seen in action movies or the latest kung fu flick. The thought of having to possess above average abilities in order to practice martial arts can deter individuals from benefiting from the one thing martial arts provides to every practitioner…fitness.

Martial arts have been practiced for thousands of years, and it has been said that it takes more than a lifetime to master any particular style. Along the path to achieving individual goals in martial arts (whether for self-defense, discipline or just to attempt to master an art), most overlook the secondary benefit of overall fitness. The cardiovascular exercises performed during training promotes lung health, heart health, muscle strength and countless other benefits to help increase longevity.

The phrase “hard work, pays off” has a true and proven meaning in the practice of martial arts. Whether or not an individual is able to perform acrobatic kicks, or touch his/her toes during a certain stretch, has no relevance when it comes to internal wellness. and should not influence them demotivate It may be demotivating if someone has a difficult time learning their art, but they shouldn’t become distracted from the true underlying advantage of the daily routines.
